Laurel, MD.  Along with a new town center in Laurel, comes a new church. Uplift Church will launch on September 14, 2014 at 10:30am at Deerfield Run Elementary School, 13000 Laurel Bowie Rd. Laurel, MD. Laurel is experiencing an economic uplift, with new residents and businesses. “We want to bring a spiritual uplift as well,” says Rev. Marquez Ball the lead pastor.

The 33-year-old Rev. Ball who has been a youth and young adult pastor for the past ten years in Washington, DC, is branching out to serve both the Laurel community and the people of Uplift Church. Rev. Ball said, “A lot of young professionals are moving to Laurel but many have not become involved in the community or a part of a local church.”

Uplift’s worship services will feature powerful gospel music and relevant life-changing sermons, according to Rev Ball. Dress will be casual and
comfortable; your favorite pair of jeans or your best suit is perfectly fine.

The ground work for Uplift was laid over several months. A group of about 30 people planned the launch over the past eight months.

According to Rev. Ball, the church’s goal is to uplift the minds, hearts and spirits of young adults who are ready for change in their life.  “Many young adults between ages 25-35 love God but hate church because their parents’ or grandparents’ church no longer speak to their issues,” said Rev. Ball.

Uplift Church is also led by Van Rawls, who serves as Executive Minister. “I believe that Uplift Church will impact lives by helping people to bridge the gap between their problems and their level of spiritual practice,” said Rawls.

Although targeted to the so-called 20 to 30 somethings, Ball believes that the church’s style will resonate with a wide range of age groups. People are not necessarily less religious today than they were 20 years ago, he says. They are just looking for different things from their church experience.

Uplift Church will have its first worship service begins with a series entitled, “Allow Me to Introduce Myself.”  You can visit their website at www.upliftmd.com.
