Featured with the Harlem Globetrotters at 109 and Going Strong

In the video above, Virginia McLaurin, who famously danced with the Obamas when she was 106, celebrated her 109th birthday with her favorite basketball team, the Harlem Globetrotters. Ms. McLaurin was all smiles this morning, as she danced in her wheelchair and spun basketballs with Globetrotters Zeus McClurkin, Swish Young and the children at Brightwood Elementary School in Washington, D.C.

The Globetrotters donated 109 tickets for underprivileged youth to see the world famous team play in Washington, D.C. and Fairfax on March 17-18. The majority of the tickets will go to students at Brightwood.

Ms. McLaurin’s birthday falls on March 12. The visit to Brightwood marks the third annual birthday celebration thrown by the Globetrotters for Ms. McLaurin, who has become a close friend of the organization. They have taken the parties on a tour of three different D.C. schools, as Ms. McLaurin loves seeing the kids. The Globetrotters also celebrated Ms. McLaurin with a Globetrotters-themed birthday cake, a new #109 jersey, and an official autograph game ball.

The Globetrotters will play the following games in DC and Fairfax as part of the “Amazing Feats of Basketball World Tour.” Tickets are available at HarlemGlobetrotters.com.
