County Executive Allan Kittleman addressed a crowd of 50 or more people gathered at the Howard County Health Department, 8930 Stanford Boulevard in Columbia, who had gathered for the county’s kick-off of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Health Department organized a Remembrance Tree Pinning ceremony in honor of all those who have suffered with breast cancer or are suffering currently.

Dr. Maura J. Rossman, Health Officer, opened the ceremony with words of encouragement to those gathered to show support.

Rossman and Kittleman started the remembrance portion of the ceremony by pinning the names of loved ones who suffered with breast cancer. Others in the group took their turns pinning names to the tree to support those battling breast cancer, or those who experienced this illness in the past.
