Columbia Native Honored Aboard USS Gerald R. Ford

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Oct. 1, 2018) Lt. Cmdr. Angela Domingos (left) a Columbia, Maryland, native assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) operations department, receives the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal from Cmdr. Jeremy Vaughan, Ford’s operations officer, during an awards-at-quarters held in the ship’s forecastle.

USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is a first-in-class aircraft carrier, and the first new aircraft carrier designed in over 40 years. The Sailors who serve aboard Ford are tasked with ensuring the ship, and eventually her embarked airwing and the strike group are ready to support national tasking when called upon by the President.

The ship is currently undergoing a 12-month post-shakedown availability and maintenance period at Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding.
