Murder Suspect Arrested in North Carolina

Homicide suspect Rane Dellinger, 20, of Ellicott City, was arrested Monday morning in North Carolina nearly 30 hours after he ran from the scene of the shooting death of Jacob Mauer, 20, of Ellicott City.

Through investigation, detectives followed leads that Dellinger may be in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Local police located Dellinger in a vehicle early this morning and took him into custody without incident.

The June 1 shooting occurred in the 4200 block of Montgomery Road in Ellicott City just before 10 p.m. Detectives believe Mauer, Dellinger and a friend were sitting in a car parked behind a building using drugs. Police believe Dellinger fired a single shot which struck Mauer, and then fled. Mauer was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

Dellinger is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a felony and illegal possession of a handgun. Howard County police are working with North Carolina authorities to arrange his extradition back to Maryland.

Howard County police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night in Ellicott City and are seeking
the whereabouts of the suspect.

Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Rane Dellinger, 20, of Autumn Hill Drive in Ellicott City, and are
encouraging him to turn himself in to police.

Officers were called to the 4200 block of Montgomery Road just before 10 p.m. for a report that a man had been
shot while sitting in his parked vehicle.

Jacob Robert Mauer, 20, of Haycarriage Court in Ellicott City, was pronounced dead at the scene. Through preliminary investigation, detectives believe Mauer, Dellinger and a friend were sitting in the car, parked behind a building using drugs. Police believe Dellinger fired a single shot which struck Mauer, and then fled from the scene. Police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
